Publisher: Durgesh Singh, trading as TextEditor++ · Last updated: 19 October 2026
Your work never leaves your device.
TextEditor++ for Mac, iPhone and iPad never sends your documents, file names, paths, searches or anything you type to us. The only thing the app sends us is an optional, anonymous usage heartbeat, which you can turn off at any time.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy covers the TextEditor++ apps for Mac, iPhone and iPad (the “app”) and texteditorplusplus.com (the “website”). The publisher is Durgesh Singh, trading as TextEditor++. Contact details are in section 8.
2. What the app never collects
We never receive the content of your documents, file or folder names, paths, search or replacement text, macros, clipboard contents, AI prompts or responses, SSH hosts, credentials or keys, crash details, or stack traces. There is no advertising, no third-party analytics SDK, and no tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
3. The optional anonymous usage heartbeat
To understand which features are used and whether the app is stable, the app can send a small heartbeat about once a day. It is on by default and you can turn it off in Settings ▸ Privacy (“Send anonymous usage statistics”). Turning it off stops sending immediately and clears anything not yet sent.
A heartbeat contains only: a random installation ID created by the app (not a hardware, advertising or Apple ID); the app version, build, distribution channel and language; the operating system, its version and the processor type; the first-install date, launch and day counts; size ranges of the largest file and tab count (for example “100MB–500MB”, “6–10 tabs”); yes/no flags for features such as find, replace, macros and split view; yes/no flags for slow operations; and the number of crashes.
This data is not linked to your identity, is used only to improve the app, and is never sold or shared with third parties for their own use. Deleting the app removes the installation ID.
4. Features that connect to services you choose
Some features send data directly from your device to a service you set up, never through us:
- AI providers. If you connect an AI provider account, your requests go directly to that provider under its own privacy policy. On supported Apple devices, Apple Intelligence runs on the device or in Apple’s Private Cloud Compute.
- Remote Sources. Files you open over SSH or other remote connections travel directly between your device and your server.
- Files and iCloud. Documents you open from iCloud Drive or another file provider stay under that provider’s policy.
Keys and passwords for these features are stored in your device’s Keychain.
5. Updates (Mac)
The Mac app downloaded from this website checks texteditorplusplus.com for updates. That request includes the app version and operating system version, as every update check does. Apps installed from the App Store are updated by Apple.
6. The website and the contact form
The website uses no advertising or third-party tracking cookies. If you use the contact form, we receive the message, the request type and, if you give one, your reply email, and use them only to answer you. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes requests to deliver the website and may keep short-lived technical logs.
7. Your rights
Because the heartbeat is anonymous, we cannot connect it to you. You can stop it at any time in the app’s Settings. For a contact-form message, you can ask us to see or delete it. Depending on where you live (for example under the UK or EU GDPR), you may also have the right to complain to your data-protection authority.
8. Contact
Questions about privacy: use the contact form or email support@texteditorplusplus.com.
9. Changes
We will publish any change on this page with a new date. A change that sends new kinds of data from the app will be described in that release’s notes.
